What's New at Misty Acres Farm & Kennel for 2008 The purpose of this page is to provide a quick link to what's new on our web site. Listed will be links to recently added pages and updates to our web site. We update so much and so often that it may be difficult to list everything that has been newly added. But we will try. The items listed at the top will be the most current additions. We will try to keep the new additions to our web site listed on this page for one year. Enjoy. 1. Dortmund, Germany - The First Annual International Kangal Club meeting was held in Dortmund Germany. This was a fantastic meeting with folks from all over the world. The event was hosted by Kangal & Co. Many fine presentations were given at the meeting on Saturday. Naturally there were loads of Kangal dogs as well. Also the huge Dortmund dog show was held the same weekend. On Friday, May 2 nd Misty Acres Zeki won Best Male at the Dortmund Dog show and a point towards his German Champion title. Photos are still being uploaded. This will take some time as there are loads of beautiful photos that were taken. Please keep checking back as it will take many days to post all the information. There are tons of photos from Germany. Updated May 11, 2008. 2. Run for the Cheetah - A race to help raise funds for the CCF to help with the preservation of the Cheetah was held in Chicago on April 6, 2008. The Turkish Kangal is now being used to help with the preservation efforts of Dr. Laurie Marker's livestock dog program. Some members of the Great Lakes Kangal Club were at the race with their Kangal dogs. One of the CCF organizers said that it was better to have the dogs present than a cheetah because people could interact with the Kangal dogs in ways they could not with a cheetah. Also, that having the Kangals there was a great way to show folks an actual living, breathing, conservation method. Click here to see the Press Release about the Run for the Cheetah race in Chicago. 3. Karakul Sheep - Our Turkish Karakul sheep are from some of the rarest bloodlines in the country. While quite rare, and on the threatened list with the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy, they are thought to be one of the oldest breeds of domesticated sheep in the world. Noted for their lustrous pelts of wool. Many of the finest Persian rugs & carpet are made from Karakul fleece which is the strongest of the carpet wools. I will be using my Karakal fleeces to make handcrafted braided shepherd rugs. Updated 4/3/08. 4. Wild Rose Kangals Buffy - Buffy is our newest addition to our Kangal dogs. Her sire and dam have many, many international wins in their pedigrees. She is a wonderful gal with fantastic genetics & exhibits wonderful temperament. We are pleased and proud to have her with us. Updated 3/3/08. 5. Newly added links and updates on dogs - Links of interest to those interested in the Kangal Dog breed as well as items of interest related to dogs in general. Updated 3/3/08. 6. Great Lakes Kangal Club - On January 10, 2008 the GLKC officially became a recognized independent (stand alone), regional, single breed Kangal Dog Club affiliated with the United Kennel Club. The GLKC Regional Kangal club is dedicated to the enjoyment and preservation of the Turkish Kangal Dog, a flock guardian from the Sivas-Kangal region of Turkey. Kangal Dogs are beautiful, powerful, and loyal. Kangal Dogs are considered a Turkish National Treasure. Updated 1/10/08 7. Handcrafted Goat Milk Soaps - In the fall of 2007 Ed & I decided to start using some of the milk from our gals to make handcrafted goat milk soaps. We have thoroughly enjoyed this endeavor and have been very pleased with our product. This page was last updated - 5/11/08 |
