What's New at Misty Acres Farm & Kennel

The purpose of this page is to provide a quick link to what's new on our web site.  Listed will be links to recently added pages and updates to our web site.  We update so much and so often that it may be difficult to list everything that has been newly added.  But we will try.  

The items listed at the top will be the most current additions. We have some really nice things that we have posted and more to come  so, check back often for our updates.

2011

1. It is with great sadness that I share that Char Luthy of Misty Acres Farm and Kennel, passed away on March 12, 2011.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a friend to so many of us.  She was passionate about many things in life including her farm and her working Kangal Dogs.  There are countless people across the world that own Misty Acres Kangal Dogs and we are all indebted to her dedication of preserving this national treasure from Turkey.  Her breedings and dogs continue on at Shadow Wings Farm located in Blue Ridge, Georgia.  In accordance with her wishes, this Misty Acres Farm website will stay online so that those that are seeking to learn more about the Kangal Dog might find a unique and rich history that unfolded at Misty Acres.

2. Lokum delivered 3 beautiful females and 3 stunning males April 11, 2011!  This is her last litter and we are so proud of all she has accomplished so far in her lifetime.  There is one female reservation available.  Feel free to check out her webpage at Shadow Wings Farm. Updated 4/12/11

3. New Dawn will be ready to deliver her first litter of pups with Ancient Warrior the middle of May, 2011.  Check out the puppy page at Shadow Wings Farm. Updated 4/12/11

4. WE'RE HAVING SUPER BOWL PUPPIES!  Ed and I are so excited to announce that Darlene just called to report that Maverick bred Lokum today on Super Bowl Sunday!  Maverick is a proven stud and and Lokum is a rare and priceless dam.  We will keep you updated on her progress over the next 2 months. 5. It is with complete confidence and excitement that Ed and I have entrusted Darlene Kelley with our Kangal Dogs and the breeding plans that we had planned along with the breeding plans she has planned in the days to come.  We know that her commitment to carrying on the traditions we’ve had all these years at Misty Acres Farm and Kennel will not only honor the breed but will also honor the heart and soul that Ed and I poured into everything we accomplished here.

6. Hediye delivered 8 beautiful puppies November 26, 2010 at Shadow Wings Farm.  She had 5 boys and 3 girls and continues to make my heart proud.  They are large boned, strong and sturdy pups and will serve their new owners for many years to come.

7. I will be updating this page often as there is so much that Ed and I want to share with those who have followed our farm happenings all these years.  We have been very blessed by the support of so many people and thank each and every one of you for the years of joy and happiness you've shared with us. 1.  Ancient Warrior & New Dawn - our newly imported Purebred Turkish Kangals directly from Turkey - Updating 0f pedigrees and photos in process.  We have new updates/photos this next week - 10/26/09.  Please continue to check back for more information and photos.

3.  Karakul Sheep breeding plans for lambing in 2010 - This will be the first year that we will be breeding our beloved Karakul sheep.  We will be excited to see our baby lambs next spring in 2010.

Originally we purchased these sheep as we were interested in their fleece for braded shepherd's rugs.  We also wanted to do our part (even if in a very small way) toward the preservation of this threatened breed of sheep.  

Our Turkish Karakul sheep are from some of the rarest bloodlines in the country.  While quite rare, and on the threatened list with the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy, they are thought to be one of the oldest breeds of domesticated sheep in the world.

Since we obtained our first ewes from Letty Klein early last year and then our rams & additional ewes from Barb's fantastic herd in Indiana, we have learned so much about these sheep from Barb and fell head over heals in love with this breed.  As a result, we re-homed 1/2 of our Shetland herd, keeping only those we dearly loved so that we could make room for a much larger herd of Karakul sheep.

We have gained a great respect for these sheep and the hardships that they have endured over the years.  We hope to do our part in increasing the numbers of exceptionally nice Karakul's and hope that in the future, they will no longer be on the threatened list.  

We look forward with great joy to slowly increasing our herd over the coming years.  Our Kangals will be on duty as always to protect our precious Karakul's.

2008

1.  New photos are being added to our Kangal dog pages.  Also, pup photos from Inca's litter are being added.   Photos of Lokum's current litter - Updating in progress 12/26/08 and will continue for the next month or two.  Please keep checking  back.

3.  Rabbits: Angora Rabbits &  Giant Flemish Rabbits  - Updating in progress 10/17/08 & will continue for the next month.  Photos pedigrees & information being added.

The First International Kangal Club meeting was held in Dortmund Germany.   This was a fantastic meeting with folks from all over the world.  The event was hosted by Kangal & Co.  Many fine presentations were given at the meeting on Saturday.  Naturally there were loads of Kangal dogs as well.
