10/10/07 - This is the first photo I have taken of Lokum and her pups.  The weather changed rapidly on the day Lokum whelped.  It had been in the 90's and dropped the night the pups were born with a high so far today of 45 degrees.  Mom wraps herself closely and regulates how warm the pups are by how tightly she circles them.

She is such a wonderful mom.  She is loving, attentive, and very careful when she changes position around her babies.  She has 5 boys and 2 girls.

10/11/07  I took these photos to show what a sweet mom Lokum is.  She is so very careful about how she gets up an down around her babies.  She toe touches (seen in left photo) with her feet until she is sure she is not stepping on a puppy and then wraps herself around them for warmth.

10/12/07 - The pups are doing just great.  They have already grown so much.  Such a FANTASTIC litter.  Each day, several times a day the puppies are picked up, turned upside down and given belly rubs and petted.

10/13/07 - The puppies are going so nicely.  I just love holding them and touching their little paws.

They had their physicals today as well as their dew claws removed.  The vet was so pleased with how the litter looked.  She said it was a VEEEEEERRRRRRRY nice litter but then I already knew that : )  Yes, I am a very proud mom.  Each puppy passed it's first physical with flying colors.  Plenty of photos below of the excursion to the vets office.

In this photo, the pups are in the basket just before being loaded to go to the vet's office - 10/13/07.

This photo was taken with the pups in the basket waiting their turn for the vet - 10/13/07.

This is such a sweet photo.  I love the little leg over the other pup.  Also, I think the little white paw looks like the puppy has white gloves on - 10/13/07.

In this photo, the vet is giving the puppy a good looking over/physical before she begins removing the dew claws.  She is such a fantastic vet.

In the photo on your left the vet is removing the dew claws.  Heather is the best vet around.  She is worth the travel time to get to her.  She is the only vet in the state that specializes in herding/flock animals.  She is excellent with sheep and goats.  She sees many working farms and working dogs.  She dearly loves my Kangals.

In the photo on your right, Heather is stopping the bleeding from the removal of the dew claws.  She uses a silver nitrate stick.  When done at this stage of the dogs life, it is a very simple procedure.  Later, it would require surgery and the dog would have to have anesthesia.
