2/12/06 - These puppies have really been growing lately. If you compare the size with the other weeks you can see how very much they have grown. They are also MUCH more playful than a few days ago. The litter remains very consistent in looks and size. Poor Yasemin is not exactly sure how to feed the 14 pups. It is first come first served. She retains her very sweet nature through it all. They have certainly changed from the earlier photos where she laid on her back out of reach when she felt the pups had enough milk. I am feeding the pups milk 3 times a day at this time as well as having dried puppy food out at all times. Yasemin needs all the help she can get. Argos Two very special drawings 2/14/06 Many of you have already written to ask me about the two drawings I posted last night. One of our new puppy family members has picked this name for her new puppy. Her name is Cat, she lives in Chicago, and is a VERY SWEET & SPECIAL LADY ! She has already become a close friend of Ed & I as many of you have as well. This is the story behind the name. "The name Argos comes from a small passage in the Odyssey by Homer. The name of the book is from the main character-Odysseus, the King of Ithaca. Odysseus had a dog that he trained from a pup. He loved his dog dearly, and named him Argos. When he left to fight the Trojan War, he left his faithful dog at Ithaca. The dog waited for him for 20 years to return home. Odysseus meets him again at the gates of his palace. It is a very moving and sweet scene in which Odysseus meets his dog again. That's why we picked the name. Argos was beautiful and faithful." Cat read this scene to me on one of her visits to our home in Chicago when she came to see the pups. I highly recommend reading it for yourselves. It is so touching. It brought tears to my eyes. The cute drawings are by a dear friend of Cat's, Laura Park. Laura drew these for Cat as she has been so excited to get her puppy and bring him home. Laura was gracious enough to give permission that the drawings could be posted. I posted the drawings on Laura's birthday which was 2/14. Happy Birthday Laura ! I am having to add more pages to the web this week so that each page does not take so long for people to view. Click on the links below to see more photos. I think you will agree it is worth the time to see what is going on at the farm. Click here to see photos of pups at play on 2/16/06 A LOT will be going on with the litter this week as well as next week. We have our work cut out for us but this time makes all the difference in the world. We do a LOT for our litters of puppies as we want them to settle well into any situation they will have to face in their lifetimes. It is time well spent and we love our dogs dearly. We would do no less. Yesterday 2/16/06 the puppies were ready for toys. If you click the above link you will see the string with socks & toys on it as well as there are toys on the ground. They are very interested in their environment this week. Each day each puppy is getting individual play time with a human away from their litter. This is going very well and they are very adaptable to being alone for their 10-15 minutes each day. Socialization of the pups continues each and every week just as it has from the day they were born. Children handle the pups each week. Today 2/17/06 they will be introduced to the LOUD weed eater. We will turn it on and off several times today so they will hear the loud sounds. Tomorrow 2/18/06 they will have a radio on for several hours each day with music. Each day I will turn the station to different music stations so they will have a variety of sounds and voices. |
