Turkey Trip Part II  (The Wedding Reception)

After finishing our feast that Onur prepared for us, he asked if we would like to go to a wedding reception.  A young friend that Onur had known since his family moved to the village when he was seven was getting married on Sunday and had asked Onur if he could come to the reception.  Ali drove us to the reception which was being at the bride-to-be’s house.  When we arrived members of the brides family and friends of the bride and groom were already there.  A small band was playing music

After a little while several cars and busses arrived with members of the groom’s family and soon the area was filled with approximately 200 people.

Then the fun started.  A gentleman sitting next to me pulled out his 9mm pistol and began firing it into the air.  At first I wasn’t sure if I should try to subdue him or what.  Then about 15 others throughout the crowd joined in firing their guns in the air.  It was quite exciting.

                                                             Just Celebrating - Friendly Fire

Onur said it was their way of celebrating the wedding and that the authorities understood and allowed the people to have their fun.   I told Onur it was a good thing that everyone there were friends.

A group of young boys saw that I was taking pictures and came to be photographed.  Kids are the same everywhere don't you think?

                                                             What a Big Guy

After we left the reception, Onur showed us one of his dogs he had sold a friend that lived nearby.

The next day we stopped by where they were preparing a feast for the wedding guests.  It was quite a spread.  There was meat cooking in the pots and they were going to add rice to the pots.  As you can see they planned on serving quite a few people.

The reception and other activities associated with the wedding were all very interesting to see.  Everyone had a great time.
