A lot is going on this week. The pups have gotten much stronger on their legs and are moving around with lively energy in their hut. I have mowed their puppy pen with the brush hog a couple of times this week even though it did not need it. This helps the pups adjust to very loud sounds. I don't know of anything much louder than the sound of the tractor and hog. We also shot a very loud gun several times to help them with loud bangs. I will begin them on a little milk with dried dog food mixed in. Their mom is feeding them very well but I feel it is time that they can try snacking on some milk and dry food. Photos will follow in the next couple of days - 9/24/06. I will be adding photos throughout the day toady - Please check back. Also, please note in several photos there are round circles in the photos. I am sorry but it has been raining constantly for the past week and those circles are rain drops on my camera lens. I keep wiping them off and it keeps right on raining.
In this photo, it shows how we set up the outside hut. We have it so the pups can't get out but mom Lokum can go in and out as she desires. She can also lay next to her pups on the straw that is in front but they can't reach her to feed. She regulates how often they nurse on her that way. In this photo, I have just put down the feeder pan with some warm milk mixed with dried Solid Gold puppy food. 9/24/06.
In this photo the little pups already drank the milk in the puppy bowl. They are starting on the dried Solid Gold puppy food. At this point they get more milk on themselves :)
In this photo several of the pups have finished all they want of the milk and dried dog food. They then decided to go to mamma Lokum for some additional milk.
Socialization continues 9/27/06. It is very important that children come often. They move differently around dogs than adults do and handle the pups differently. Ma Lokum stays close by to assure her pups are ok. She checks in to see what is going on frequetly. |
