Raw Shetland Fleece (wool) Shetland's are noted for their high quality wool - the finest of any British breed. This fleece is noted from fineness of crimp and resilience, forming the basis of the world renowned Shetland woolen industry. We take great pride in our quality raw fleeces that we offer for sale. Effort is taken to produce a clean fleece as free as possible from vegetable matter. Our flock grazes on lush pasture grass year round. A few times a year when the snow is so deep that they can't reach the grass, they are offered excellent quality hay. Once the Shetlands can reach the grass again, they turn up their noses at the hay and turn once again on the pasture provided. The fleeces we have for sale are available in a wide variety of colors and shades, fiber lengths, and crimp. The fiber varies from a fine wool with at tight crimp to long and silky with a loose curl. Our natural and dyed Shetland wool roving is from our own flock and is offered directly to you for all your spinning pleasures. Our fibers included in blends are carefully selected for color & texture compatibility with our wool. Some are a solid color which other have a main body color with darker shades of the same color throughout. Others have fibers that vary in color from the tip to the base of the fleece. We have 5 nice ewes - a black, two browns (one more of a fawn color & one more of a moorit color) we have cream, and a lovely gray. We have 15 wethers - 2 white with very nice crimpy fleeces, 3 browns of various shades, and 5 in various shades of black. A couple are a dark gray. We have 3 rust to chocolate brown and 1 fawn with various shades of cream throughout the fleece. We have 3 with double coats. The roving from these fleeces are highly sought from spinners/knitters as this particular fleece spins into fantastic yarn that makes very strong socks. Fleece will be available for sale the middle of April 2008 once our sheep are shorn. You can purchase fleece either raw or processed. You may purchase fleeces whole or divided in half.
