Preservation & Genetics Managing Breeds for a Secure Future By Phil Sponenberg & Donald Bixby This is one of my favorite books. The Kangal dog from Turkey is a landrace animal and as such this books theories and applications for conservation are applicable. Managing Breeds for a Secure Future presents challenges regarding maintaining genetic diversity within species & breeds of livestock and poultry. It is a theoretical exposition as well as a user's guide. Conservation issues are presented and there are practical approaches for developing successful strategies for securing and standardized breeds and landrace animals. Livestock Guardian books Livestock Protection Dogs: Selection, Care, and Training By Orysia Dawydiak & David E. Sims Raising Puppys Before and After Getting Your Puppy: The Positive Approach to Raising a Happy, Healthy, and Well-behaved Dog By Dr. Ian Dunbar Books about Kangal Dogs If anyone obtains these books for their reading pleasure, please keep in mind that many of the stories in these books refer to the Kangal dogs as Karabash and others just refer to the dogs as yellow dogs with black heads. There are no references to Kangal dogs as a breed prior to the 1980's in the texts and this is NOT politically acceptable by the Turks. They are Kangal dogs. 1)
