CONSOLIDATION:

In 1967 the first litter was registered in UK under Dr. Steele’s Konya affix and in the next few years more dogs were imported and registered.

In 1968 Messrs J Lloyd & D. Lyth accompanied by Dr. Steele traveled to Turkey and imported two dogs.  They were assisted in obtaining the necessary papers for export in Ankara by Cdr. B Ballard.  In 1970 they returned to Turkey and imported Eleif & Atak from Sivas/Kangal.

Mr. Lloyd believed that these second dogs were much superior to the first two and he wrote in the breed notes that he believed the dogs should be called Kangal Dog.

In 1973 Dr. Withof-Keus Anadol journeyed to Turkey and then imported two male dogs bred by the Director of Ankara Zoo.  They were named Capar of Anadol and Hakki of Anadol.  Capar later moved to Seacop.  He and the Marchael dog Fena were in the foundation lines of Telkari and Benkiz lines.

In May 1973 Dr. Steele was visited by Miss N. Czartoryska (then Mrs. Fleming) with a request to use the male Gazi on a young bitch called Mektup.  Dr. Steele asked to see documents referring to the bitch ie: pedigree, import papers, quarantine papers, but there were none.  Dr. Steele pointed out that if the bitch was imported from Turkey, had spent 6 months in quarantine and was still under two years old, then quarantine was of a sufficiently recent date that such papers should be available.   Miss Czartoryska then said she had purchased the bitch from a woman in a Supermarket Car Park after responding to an advert in her local paper.  She then showed the bitch to Dr. Steele.  It was white with colored patches.  Dr. Steele refused to use her dog on the bitch.  She said that if the bitch had come from Turkey and if it was from flock guarding stock it was obviously not Karabas because of it’s conformation and color and this was her reason for refusing to use her dogs on it.  There followed an argument until Mr. Steele intervened, pointing out that Dr. Steele had returned from the Maternity home only 3 days previously with her two week old son and that Miss Czartoryska must leave.
