| We are working very hard to become a self sufficient farm. We hope to achieve our goals in the next few years. We will continually be adding products for sale from our farm as we add new animals and livestock. This year 2009, we plan to add farm fresh chocolate brown eggs. We have been a Predator Friendly farm for 13 years. We practice various management strategies and have used livestock guardian dogs for many years. Our goal is to keep our livestock safe as well as helping to maintain the ecosystem of our area. Kangal livestock guardian dogs offer a humane option for coexistence with carnivores. Kangals are wonderful guardians of both flock AND home. As you take a look around the farm/kennel, many of the pages on our web site will take awhile to down load. However, we feel it is well worth the wait to see the beautiful animals that are featured. We are dedicated to the preservation of rare breeds of animals and as such support the working Turkish Kangal Livestock Guardian dog, Turkish Karakul Sheep, and Primitive Shetland Sheep. The Turkish Karakul Sheep are on the threatened list with the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. The Shetland Sheep are on the recovering list with the ALBC. About our planned litters of Turkish Kangal Livestock Guardian Dogs. These photos of Yasemin & Safak were taken 1/8/09. Yasemin is to your left and Safak to the right. Such wonderful Kangals in every way. Our Imported Kangals are from very strong working lines. We have carefully chosen the lines of dogs for their wonderful temperament, excellent working ability, and great conformation. It is our goal to preserve the rare breed of working Turkish Kangal Dogs by trying to place as many of our puppies in working homes as possible. This does not mean that they don't make excellent companion and family dogs. They most certainly do. But, we have found over the years that if we breed for the traits we wish to see in our working lines, those same traits carry over to produce excellent family companions as well. We have been a Predator Friendly farm for over 11 years. We practice various management strategies and have used livestock guardian dogs for many years. Our goal is to keep our livestock safe as well as helping to maintain the ecosystem of our area. Kangal livestock guardian dogs offer a humane option for coexistence with carnivores. We carefully screen potential adoptive parents of our pups. Please ask to see our Kangal Puppy Adoption Form & Kangal Puppy Contract. We also work very hard to place the right dog in the right home and the right working situation. We will be very happy to talk with you to see if the Kangal is the breed of dog for you. Kangals are not for everyone. 2009 1. Hediye with Sampiyon (Champ) Hediye is now bred with Champ. Litter should whelp toward the end of August. Pups to new homes around the middle of October. CH Doga Farms Lokum with Maverick (Kahraman) litter for new homes in the fall - Both Lokum & Maverick are SUPERIOR working Kangals and have worked livestock all their lives. They both have fantastic temperaments and have produced pups with excellent penn hip scores. I can not say enough good things about these two proven Kangal dogs. Maverick & Lokum have produced MANY fine working pups with EXCELLENT working ability & temperament. Their pups have made fantastic home companions as well. I have written up the stories of 3 of their pups. One is in Alaska protecting livestock from bears - Click here to read this story. Another is in Florida protecting livestock from many different predators - Click there to read that story. A third is in Michigan working rare breed poultry - Click here to read this story. Another of their pups has the BEST Penn Hip scores ever recorded to date. Berk lives in Alaska and keeps bears away from his stock. His hip scores are L hip - 0.27 & R hip 0.19. If you would like to be on the waiting list for a male or female pup in case Lokum has more pups that we have accepted reservations for please contact us at edandcharluthy@yahoo.com . We are available to the owners of our dogs for questions and assistance both as new puppy owners and owners of the dogs for years to come. The Yahoo Group Kangal Enthusiasts was started just for this purpose. We can't answer questions if they are never asked. We also try to be of assistance to people that want to learn more about the Kangal breed and if this breed of dog is right for them. We will help in any way we can and with the knowledge and experience we have. Turkish Guardian dogs are a very unique and awesome type of dog. They most certainly are not for everyone. We can help you decide if this is the breed for you. We guarantee the hips of our puppies. Puppy contracts will be signed with each puppy. Please ask to see our contract. About our Turkish Kangal Livestock Guardian Dogs.
All of our Kangal Dogs are Registered Kangals with the United Kennel Club. We have had working Turkish Kangal Livestock Guardian dogs for many years now and will never be without them. We love their working ability, intelligence, and personality. Our Imported Kangal dogs come from very strong working lines and for many generations back. Several of our dogs are direct Turkish imports. Other's have been imported from Germany from direct Turkish lines. All of our Kangal dogs do what they were bred to do every day of their lives. Many of our Kangal dogs that we have bred are actively working with livestock. Some go to homes as family guardians/companions. Some have earned the prestigious Canine Good Citizens awards & Therapy Dog Certificate, other's are involved in Tracking events. No matter where they are or what they do, our Kangal Dogs are doing their jobs very well. When our Kangal dogs were shown by us in the past (a very few times) they were literally taken out of the fields they work the morning of the show and returned back home to the field each night. Excellent working ability is the most important factor. Showing, was used only to socialize our dogs. They just happen to be excellent in conformation and did well at the shows too. We have not actively shown our Kangal working dogs since 2004. They would much prefer to do their jobs and stay with their livestock & we were too busy managing a working farm. However, we hope to once again show some of our Kangals this year 2008. Turkish Kangal Livestock Guardian dogs or Turkish Kangal Shepherd dogs are a very unique and awesome type of dog. They most certainly are not for everyone. We can help you decide if this is the breed for you. About our primitive Turkish Karakul Sheep
In this photo, both Rosie (your left) and Suri (your right are heading out to the pasture after being shorn. It is a good photo of the fat tails. Photo taken 4/18/08. Karakul's are noted for their lustrous, silky pelts of wool. The wools have been used in coats, jackets, saddle blankets, wall hangings, hats, and even as an organic alternative to fiberglass insulation. Many of the finest Persian rugs and carpets are perfect examples of the beauty and versatility of the Karakul fleece. Our Primitive Turkish Karakul's are from some of the rarest bloodlines in the country. We are committed to the preservation of this threatened breed of sheep. About our primitive Shetland Sheep
Shetland's are considered a primitive, unimproved breed. As such, although they are small and slow-growing, they maintain natural hardiness, thriftiness, easy lambing, adaptability and longevity. Shetlands have survived for centuries under harsh conditions and on a meager diet, although they do very well under less rigorous conditions. Having retained most of their primitive survival instincts, they are much easier to care for than many of today's "improved" breeds. Our Shetlands were chosen for their excellent quality fleeces. This was our primary focus as we selected our sheep. Our Karakuls & Shetlands are from certified scrapies free herds and have been healthy and hardy. They do not leave the farm nor have we had any additions to our flock. About our Nubian Dairy Goats
We have spent much time and effort selecting our top quality Nubian Dairy Goat breeding stock from a very few breeders across the country that we consider to have some of the most beautiful and correct animals. We are blending bloodlines in our breeding program to provide a certain look and performance that we feel with produce excellent dairy goats. We have very nice Purebred Nubian Dairy Goats. We are a TB free herd. We also actively participate in the federal program for the eradication of scrapies. We have been issued our premise ID number and tags. All goats that are born here and leave our property will have their own tag in compliance with the Interstate Commerce rules. Herd Health is of major importance to us. All foundation breeding stock/new and any new additions are tested for TB, CAE, CL, Bruc, and Johne's. We have ALWAYS maintained a negative herd. We provide plenty of space, nice pasture, and clean living quarters for our livestock. We are a closed herd. We work hard to maintain healthy livestock. All dairy stock is tested for CAE on a regular basis. We test our milkers twice a year for CAE. We use a lab that provides ELISA testing. We feel this is a more accurate form of testing. We test for CAE before breeding season and just before our bucks are drawn for straws. We test again a month before kidding time begins. We follow a STRICT CAE prevention program. We pasteurize all milk for our bottle kids. We feel it is IMPORTANT to provide you with healthy stock. Purchasing healthy animals is a good start toward protecting your investment.
